Market Mingle: RVA Black Farmers Market Meetup

  • 1311 Westwood Avenue Richmond, VA, 23227 United States (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

On September 28, Bloom RVA is headed to the RVA Black Farmers Market! For our founder, Kay, visits to the local market are important, as her great-grandfather was a farmer, and three years ago she found herself reconnecting with that lineage when she became a gardener.

Here in Virginia, Black farmers have been at the heart of agriculture for centuries, despite facing systemic land loss, discriminatory lending practices, and exclusion from federal support. In the early 20th century, there were nearly one million Black farmers in America; today, fewer than 2% of all farmers are Black.

Supporting Black farmers is honoring the past and investing in the future of this country. Farmers markets give us the chance to circulate dollars within our own neighborhoods and strengthen our own Richmond economy.

What to expect: a stroll through local vendor stalls, quick introductions and a group photo

This event is free to attend, and you’ll pay-as-you-go with vendors.

Bloom RVA Family Day at Ashland Berry Farm

Though Bloom RVA started as a social club for completely single women, we want to be inclusive of the mothers within our group that need community too. With that said, we’re heading to the pumpkin patch!

Join Bloom RVA for our first-ever family-friendly outing on Saturday, October 4 at 12:00 PM at Ashland Berry Farm in Beaverdam, VA.

Ashland Berry Farm is 30 acres of fall fun with something for everyone:

  • A sprawling pumpkin patch (with All You Can Carry Pumpkins for $30!)

  • Free parking and hay rides

  • Fort Pumpkin bouncy house

  • The Donut Shop

  • The 3D Boo House

  • Animal Corral

Bring your kids, nieces, nephews, little cousins or just bring yourself and tap into your inner child. This is a day to fun, fresh air and community with Bloom RVA sisters and their families.

Important Notes:

  • Tickets: Attendees are responsible for purchasing their own tickets, either online in advance or at the entrance on the day of the event. Bloom RVA will not be sourcing tickets. Purchase your tickets here: https://shorturl.at/FC0oj

Bloom RVA Walks to End Lupus Now

On Saturday, October 11, Bloom RVA will lace up and join the Walk to End Lupus Now at Midtown Green in Richmond! Our founder Kay will be walking in honor of her sister-in-law, Colby Muhammad (Kat Richardson on CBS's Beyond the Gates), who lives with lupus and will join the event as a survivor and activist. This day is about solidarity, so whether you have lupus, love someone who does, or simply want to stand with our community, you’re welcome to walk with us.

How You Can Support

Join the Walk: Walk with Bloom RVA as a show of strength, care, and community.

Donate: Even if you can’t join in person, you can still support. Every dollar goes toward lupus research, education, and support services for families affected.

The Book Club: A Valentine’s Book Exchange

Valentine’s Day—or month for that matter—is a time to share the love, and this time, we’re sharing our love for books!

Celebrate a week early by joining us for Bloom RVA’s Valentine’s Book Exchange, where meet up to swap favorite reads, discover new stories, and connect with fellow book lovers. We encourage you to bring a book that you actually enjoyed.

This event is open to 30 participants due to capacity, so make sure to reserve your spot quickly. RSVP is required to attend.

Here is how the book exchange works:

  1. Bring a Book (or More!): Each attendee must bring at least one book to give away. You are welcome to bring additional books if you’d like to exchange more than one.

  2. Share the Love: During the event, you’ll have the opportunity to give a brief explanation of why you recommend your book(s).

  3. Exchange Books: After sharing, attendees will have the chance to select books brought by others. The goal is for everyone to leave with at least one new-to-you book.

  4. Enjoy the Community: Use the time to chat, bond over favorite genres, and discover new recommendations.

We can’t wait to see you there and hear all about the books you love!
